Marvin Powell, the oldest brother among three siblings, with Marian Jacques and Eddie being the youngest, paved the way for making Eddie's dream come true. Marvin was one of the top players in high school basketball and received a four-year basketball scholarship to Hartford University.
Eddie was inspired by his older brother. Marvin gave Eddie the drive and ambition to pursue his dream. Sadly, Marvin passed away during Eddie's first year of college, leaving him devastated. Eddie worked harder to make his dream of becoming an NBA player come true, promising to make it, as his brothers would say. Eddie's love for basketball and the death of his older brother gave him the drive to make his dreams, hopes, and aspirations come true. Eddie did just that; Eddie became the country's top basketball player in March Madness, leading Seton Hall to a great win.
After just one year of college basketball, Eddie made the decision that his coaches had asked him to enter the draft to become an NBA player.
Yes! Eddie Jamaal Griffin, a once-celebrated first-round pick, found himself navigating the unexpected twist of being selected in the sixth round, leaving everyone in suspense. He embarked on his NBA journey with the Houston Rockets as a rookie, having been drafted and subsequently traded by the New Jersey Nets. Embracing Houston as his new home, he joyfully invited his family and friends to join him in this amazing adventure. Eddie was cherished not only by his loved ones but also by the crowd and fans, who adored him dearly.
The E.J.G. Foundation aims to provide resources and fundraising support to organizations that prioritize the needs of youth in low-income communities. Our objective is to support various groups in contributing to their communities and financing initiatives that inspire our youth to achieve their aspirations, while prioritizing mental health. Families with limited financial resources will receive the necessary support to facilitate their youth's educational pursuits and enable them to reach their full potential. They will be reassured that they are not alone and that resources for mental health awareness are accessible to them, instilling a sense of hope and offering the mental health support required to strive for excellence. With divine grace, all objectives are attainable.
